The Italian sense of fashion and beauty is unsurpassed and known worldwide. This talent of theirs has been transferred to every sphere and construction is no exception! Venetian plaster is the perfect choice for your home. It will give a unique and elegant look to your walls. Its specific structure is responsible for the "magic" of this plaster. Let's first go back a little in time to understand what Venetian plaster actually is.
As its name suggests, the roots of Venetian plaster are in ancient Italy. Rome is considered the birthplace of this construction miracle. The reason why the idea for this plaster was born is that at that time marble was an extremely accessible and cheap material. They processed it for years and devoted a lot of effort to discarding the dust that remained as garbage after processing the marble slabs. One day, however, either a lazy worker or a genius Roman decided that dust should not be thrown away but used. And so the idea of Venetian plaster was born. It is an interesting fact that even in the 21st century, the composition of the plaster has not undergone any improvements or changes simply because it is perfect. The composition of the Venetian plaster includes dust from marble, quartz or other precious stone.
You may recognize Venetian plaster easily and at the same time you may find it difficult to determine what the wall covering is because this plaster successfully imitates wallpaper, marble, mirror, glossy tiles or even metal. The texture is simply unique and depending on the composition of the plaster, you can have anything you want. In addition, Venetian plaster has another advantage. It is a natural product and as such allows the walls to breathe. It also prevents the formation of any bacteria and mold. Just one look and one touch is enough to fall in love. The plaster is extremely pleasant to the touch and gently caresses your palm. You can be sure that neither your furniture nor your clothes will be scratched by accidental contact with this plaster. The advantages of this plaster do not stop here... You can repeatedly wash the walls of Venetian plaster, because it is extremely resistant to water and other cleaning agents. The only drawback is that the price is higher compared to others and that you will definitely need an experienced craftsman to apply it on the walls, because the base of the wall must be well prepared before applying it. The application of the plaster itself has its own peculiarities, so unless you have taken a course on applying Venetian plaster, I really recommend it do not try this experiment yourself. If you still want to do this yourself, then I will tell you how to apply the Venetian plaster.
1. Start by preparing the wall by cleaning it well from dust and dirt. Take a simple broom and "sweep" the walls. After that, apply a suitable primer with a brush or a roller in one layer and wait 24 hours for the primer to dry. While the drying process lasts, if possible avoid standing in the room you are going to repair because the primer is a chemical that irritates our throat and lungs. And the application of the 1st layer of plaster follows. 2. Venetian plaster most often arrives in a white liquid form, so it is important when you buy it to choose a color to add. ) After opening the Venetian plaster, add the desired color to it and stir well for at least 15 minutes, taking care to return the color that remains on the sides of the bucket with a trowel back into the mixture, which should become homogeneous and uniform. 3. The next step we need to do is to apply the first layer of plaster on our walls. This is done with a roller. We need to dip the roller in the plaster, then only with correct vertical movements we slide the roller along the wall. After passing the roller across the entire wall, we start moving horizontally, this time, however, without dipping the roller in the bucket, but use only the plaster that we have already applied vertically .After finishing this action, we have to wait about 30 minutes and lightly spray the entire wall with water and carefully smooth the wall with a suitable tool without pressing hard. 4. After 24 hours, we apply the next layer of our Venetian plaster, which must be applied with a trowel in all directions, taking care not to create bulges anywhere and to remove the excess plaster where it is needed. We wait 24 hours and we are ready for the final. 5. In order to get the glamorous effect of the wall and to be free to wash it with water, it is necessary to treat the wall with wax. For this purpose, we use a special sponge, which can be purchased at any hardware store. The most common sponge for washing dishes would also do the job. We apply a little wax on the sponge, then in a circular motion we begin to lightly polish the wall. Start from the bottom of the wall, gradually reaching the ceiling. Wait for it to dry and now you can brag to all your friends that you have a modern, shiny and washable Venetian plaster. Generally speaking, these are steps to follow when applying such plaster, and although it seems easy, you must be very careful not to "mutilate" your wall covering.
