No matter the season, the hedge will always look green. It is the master of the garden and always stands proudly telling all the things in the garden that without it they are just flowers. And this is absolutely true! The finished look of the garden is impossible without the presence of a hedge. It is the guardian of our corner of paradise, so it is important to learn everything about it and its cultivation.
Growing such a living fence seems like a complicated and long process, and to some extent it is. Yes, it will really take time to get thick and grow, but growing it is not a difficult task at all, because this variety is not the most capricious.Let's start with the first step, namely planting.
The most suitable season for planting is autumn, but there are species that are not so cold-resistant and it is good to plant them in the spring. Each cutting must have a hole with a depth of at least 50 cm to make a large and stable root. The disturbance between individual cuttings it depends on the type of hedge. Here the rule applies in full force that the greater the spread, the more distance there should be. Usually for each type it is described by the merchant at what distance they are planted and this varies from 30-50 cm .In order to give a greater chance of survival to the seedlings, it is good to put a handful of humus or compost at the bottom of each hole. If you want to have a straight and beautiful wall, you must use a rope to find the exact position of the holes, because you risk having crooked hedges in the future. After you have carefully dug each hole at the correct distance from each other and after you have placed some fertile soil at the bottom the actual process follows. You put each stake in its place, carefully filling the hole with soil. Water abundantly and you're almost done!
Now is the time to take care of the plants in their active growth. Now is the time to water our favorite hedge regularly if we want it to grow. Water the hedge at least twice a week, spending at least 10 liters of water each time. When the hedges are at a more mature age, you can individually determine the amount of water. If you have planted the hedge branches too close to each other, they will steal each other's useful substances from the soil, which means that you need to enrich the soil often. If your soil however, it is rich in nutrients, it is enough to fertilize once every 3 years. If, of course, your soil is poor in useful substances, I recommend that you fertilize it at least once every 6 months. In autumn, it is important to add phosphorus and potassium to the soil, because this will help the plants to cope better with the upcoming winter. If you have followed all the steps correctly, but you notice a problem in the plants, it is good to contact a specialist agronomist.
After we have helped our hedges to grow, it is time for the real part, which we will deal with for the rest of the life of the hedge. In addition to the watering and fertilizing that I have already mentioned, our living wall will also need trimming. with a special trimmer, which is made of steel. If you do not have precise hands, I advise you to call a gardener to handle this not easy task, because the slightest deviation and shaking of the hand can "cripple" the entire landscape. In addition to the trimmer, you must you must also get special shears for bushes, which are mostly electric. If you want the hedge to have a different shape than a square, you will additionally need a wire frame to shape the hedge according to your taste. After you have finished with pruning, it is good to remove fallen branches and leaves to avoid rotting in the roots of the plant.
In conclusion, I want to say that the hedge, like everything else in the garden, needs care, but I know that the care it takes for me is much more, and despite the effort it costs me to keep it green and healthy, I enjoy beauty to the greatest extent.
