What fridge to choose?

The fridge is another appliance that occupies an extremely important part of our home. It doesn't matter if we eat at home or in a restaurant, because it has long been used not only for storing food. For example, it is impossible to enjoy a glass of cold beer with friends or chilled white wine at home if this machine is missing. It is impossible to store medicines that are essential if they are not in a suitable environment, such as that offered by the fridge. The examples are many and its benefits are countless, so it is important to be responsible when it comes to this purchase. To meet 100% of our needs, however, the fridge must be correctly selected and sized, so read the article to the end.

According to the installation, the fridges can be free-standing or built-in, but we will pay special attention to the free-standing ones. The size of the fridge can be the most diverse. It is measured in volume, liters. For example, the smallest among them are no more than 80-90 liters, and the larger ones 500-600 and even more. As you can see, the range in which you can choose is huge. I advise you to always buy bigger fridges as long as you have enough space in the kitchen, because the small ones are enough for 1-2 people, but you never know when your family will increase its number. Another disadvantage of mini fridges is the constant bending down every time you want to take something out of it. Yeah... your waist is definitely not going to like that. You can always put the fridge on some sort of base to make it the same height as yours, but from an aesthetic point of view I'm not sure how correct that is. However, there are benefits to this size and that is that you can easily and quickly change its location, i.e. you can put it in the bedroom or take it camping or the beach with you, for example, as long as you have access to electricity. Large fridges, on the other hand, you can't just move them around, but you can be sure that all food and drink will find a place there.

What about the design. The technological progress in fridges is remarkable, so in stores, visually and functionally, we can meet a huge variety.

  1. According to the number of doors, we can choose between a fridge with one door or two and more doors (Side-by-Side), and both options have pros and cons. For example, Side-by-Side fridges have a large capacity, intended for large households. They fit perfectly into any interior and look luxurious and massive. Their height can reach 2 meters and the width 1.5 m. Doors are opened in opposite directions. They are equipped with all kinds of extras, but they take up a lot of space in the room where they are placed. They also logically consume more electricity to cool this space. Single-door fridges, on the other hand, consume less electricity. They are convenient and cheaper, but for fans of modern technology, you should know that they are equipped with fewer extras compared to their "bigger brothers". .

  2. What will we find behind the fridge door? The answer is "many things". The variety inside is really huge and it's easy to get confused and buy the first appliance you like. The compartments in the fridge are very important, because it depends on them to properly organize the products in it. Of course, the larger models have more compartments and the more modern ones provide a different climate in each area of the fridge to make sure that we store each product properly (after all, we are talking about food!). Most often, you can find a fridge with a zone for vegetables and fruits where the temperature and humidity are such as to keep them fresh for a longer period of time. The door of the fridge is not boring either. It is usually equipped with many "sockets" where you can easily and conveniently place small essential food products, such as eggs, milk, cheese, chocolate and many others. Choose a fridge that can easily store your largest pots, so be responsible and think carefully about its purchase.

  3. Fridge with freezer. It is worth saying a little about this combination as well. It is not at all difficult to find such a machine. On the contrary, 90% of the products on the market already have a freezer added to them, because this saves us space and creates additional convenience. That is, the question is not whether we should have a freezer for the fridge, but how big it should be. As a rule, 1/3 of the volume of the fridge falls on the freezer, but the proportions differ for different models. The freezer can be both at the bottom and at the top of the fridge. It can be built into the fridge section or open with a separate door. The choice is large, so think about how often you will open the freezer to judge whether it should be from the bottom or the top, so that you don't have to bend down constantly and damage your waist. And no, modern fridges with freezers do not need ice cleaning and defrosting.

  4. Extras. Here you will really be surprised how many functions an ordinary fridge can have. Keep in mind that most of the things that we are going to list, I can't categorically put them in the extras column simply because they are already a mandatory part of every fridge, but still...
4.1 "No Frost" system. As we said above, most fridges do not need defrosting and cleaning, because they are equipped with this technology. It prevents the retention of frost on the walls of the freezer and fridge. How does the "no frost" function actually work? A fan ensures the circulation of air in the fridge or freezer, which causes the moisture to be directed to a special well, from where it then simply evaporates. This extra is extremely useful for the hosts as it would save them a lot of time and effort in cleaning the excess ice. Of course, there is also a weak point, such as, for example, that this mode of operation of the fridge dries the air and, accordingly, the food in it, so it is good to wrap some products with foil or put them in special vacuum boxes.
4.2 Water dispenser. Most fridges have this additional function. It is very convenient, when you want cold water, to simply reach out with a glass in your hand to the faucet, which is located on the outside of the fridge door. No need to open the door and look for the water inside. In fact, the water container is located inside the fridge and according to different models its capacity is different. It usually varies from 2 to 5 liters.
4.3 Ice maker. This is already a luxury. The more expensive models even have a built-in blade that turns the ice into frost. It is wonderful that the freezer always takes care of your pleasure and does not leave the glass of whiskey or white wine, for example, without the company of ice. However, the ice maker most often requires connecting the fridge to the kitchen water network.
4.4 And if you think that the ice maker is a luxury, wait until you see the models with a mini bar included in them... Who wouldn't want to have a luxurious and glowing glass showcase built into their fridge. There, your favorite drinks will be safe in a suitable temperature environment. fridge manufacturers really surpass themselves and have taken care of the most refined taste. Of course, the price of such products is really high and not in the pocket of all of us.
You must be wondering how to control all these extras? This happens through the display, which most modern models already have. There you can easily choose a different temperature for each compartment of the fridge.
As extras, we can also mention the sound signal that the machine emits when we forget its door is open, as well as its automatic closing if this option is included with the fridge. Some models have a filter to capture unpleasant odors, as well as an antibacterial filter.

Every modern electrical appliance must meet certain requirements, such as having protection from children, which means blocking the door under certain conditions, as well as being energy-saving.
The energy class of each appliance at home is indicated by a letter, with A meaning the highest level of energy saving. It is best to choose a model that has an inverter motor. It is the heart of every fridge. This motor is durable and changes its revolutions according to the temperature in the fridge, i.e. when the set temperature is reached, it reduces its revolutions, which saves a lot of energy. Another advantage of inverter fridges is the low noise levels . No one wants a constant and annoying hum... In this regard, some of the best brands on the market are Bosch, Samsung, Beko, Hisense and others.

The most popular colors for fridges are white, black and stainless steel. Of course, you may also come across more unusual colors, such as red or blue, but they are usually made to order. Choose wisely, because everything is in your hands.
