The tiles are the finishing element of any bathroom, therefore it is very important to choose the right ones, because removing them later can be a difficult and expensive "exercise". Buying the perfect bathroom tiles can be a very difficult task. The variety is huge and our choice is getting harder and harder. However, let's choose the best tiles together. First of all, I want to say that bathroom tiles should not be bought online. On the Internet, it is impossible to evaluate all the characteristics of a tile, no matter how well they are described. Physical stores are a must here. You have to touch the tile to feel the relief and judge other things, such as color or mirror effect. The edges of the bathroom tiles are also very important and you should check for the presence or absence of a joint yourself by placing two or three tiles next to each other.
Let's first categorize the tiles by material. There are three main categories of tiles - granite, earthenware and terracotta. All three types are suitable for a bathroom, but let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.
1. Tiles made of granite. These are undoubtedly the strongest tiles. Granite is an ecological material, which is made of granite particles and kaolin clay. The two elements are pressed and a material is obtained that is almost invulnerable to any physical and chemical effects. Of course, its higher price compared to its analogues is justified, because its service life is really long. Its resistance to freezing is also remarkable, which makes it suitable for bathrooms that are not heated in winter. The only drawback of granite is that it is more difficult to process than terracotta and faience and is not as resistant to getting wet.
2. Tiles made of terracotta and faience. Terracotta, on the other hand, is easy to process and is lighter. Its price is much more affordable, but unfortunately it is not as resistant as granite. However, they are the better solution for your bathroom as they are resistant to wetting and moisture.
There are also a number of other tiles made of a variety of materials, such as marble, for example, which has recently become more and more popular and which we will talk about later.
If you have already chosen what material your bathroom tiles will be made of, it is time to choose their texture. The texture of the tiles can be several options. Glossy, matte or embossed. 1.Glossy bathroom tiles. These tiles can be easily recognized by their shiny surface. In fact, this tile model is made like any other tile model, the difference is that a glaze layer is applied at the end, which gives this effect. We can we divide the glossy tiles into two categories. Tiles that are suitable for the bathroom and tiles that are not. Although these tiles are very modern and beautiful, many of us distance ourselves from them when it comes to the bathroom, because there is a high probability that slip and seriously injure yourself. This applies in full force to cheap options. In addition, glossy tiles are difficult to maintain and require regular cleaning and washing. Of course, there is also a second option, in which the tile is polished and prevents slipping when in contact with water. This option is suitable for small bathrooms, but it is usually more expensive. Why for small bathrooms? Well, because this tile model optically enlarges small spaces. Glossy tiles are suitable for darker bathrooms where there is little light, because the effect of the tiles will make the bathroom look brighter and more welcoming. 2. Frosted tiles. You won't have problems with slipping here, because we have good grip, so you can choose any type of tile. The matte tile can generally be said to have no glare and can be recognized by its muted appearance. These tiles are extremely suitable for bathroom as they successfully mask dirt and water splashes (however, the bathroom still needs to be cleaned from time to time :)). However, if noticeable stains appear on them, it will be much more difficult to clean them than with mirror tiles. 3. Embossed bathroom tiles. If you have more unconventional ideas for your bathroom, then embossed tiles will help you here. These are beautiful tiles that can make your bathroom a real piece of art. Here is the moment to say, however, that you should not overdo it with the decoration of the tiles and choose more ringed colors in order not to turn your bathroom into an excessively kitsch one. They are durable in any style and color. They can be found in white, black, red or green . You may even come across those that imitate stone, wood or even wallpaper. The only drawback is that these models are not suitable for floor covering in the bathroom, but only for the walls.
Tile Size You may encounter any size tile. It is important to determine the size of the tiles in advance, because it is very possible that the master will try to dissuade you, because of most of the work he has to put in. For example, small tiles size 10x10 look beautiful, but create the presence of many joints, which can create the opposite effect. Small tiles are also more difficult to maintain, as dirt usually gets trapped between the joints. If you want to have as few joints as possible, you should accordingly choose tiles with the largest possible size. The advantage of small tiles is that much less waste is wasted when sizing them, whereas with large tiles you may end up throwing away a lot more when the mason cuts and sizes the tile. Therefore, when measuring the square footage of your bathroom take at least 5-6 tiles more. In addition, if you need to replace any tile, it would be good to have a spare one to replace it with. The following sizes are most widely distributed: 20x50, 30x60, 25x40, 25x75, 50x100, 60x60, 60x120, 30x120 and many more.
Tile color order is coming: 1. Green bathroom tiles. Green is considered to be the color that is most pleasing to the eyes. By choosing green tiles you will create the feeling of nature. Of course, it is very important to choose the right shade of color. The tiles may be more saturated with color or paler. Excluding the classic combination this color in different shades or with tiles with floral motifs, green is successfully combined with white. The combination with tiles in other earth colors, such as brown or blue for example, would look harmonious. It would be acceptable to add yellow or black tiles to the green tiles. 2. White bathroom tiles. White is considered a less attractive color for a bathroom because white tiles are capricious and difficult to maintain, but this color can actually add coziness to your bathroom. White is usually associated with cleanliness and brightness and can visually correct disproportionate rooms. In practice, you can combine absolutely any color with white tiles. A good combination is obtained with white and black or with white and green. You can even add a third color of tiles, such as white, green and orange. The possibilities of white tiles are endless. 3. Blue bathroom tiles. Blue is a soothing color that reminds of the sea and water in general. To recreate the feeling of the sea in your bathroom, it is enough to combine blue tiles with turquoise, green or mint colored tiles. However, the color blue is not limited to this combination. The combination with white, yellow, beige or brown tiles would be successful. 4. Black bathroom tiles. Black bathroom tiles are extremely trendy and never go out of style. If we look at the characteristics of this color on a purely psychological basis, we will understand that black is the color of peace, but the correct dosage of the color is important, because if the entire bathroom is black, we will achieve the opposite effect. Think carefully about the design of the bathroom before choosing black. Contrary to white tiles, black ones would be suitable for too large rooms, because they will visually reduce the area of the bathroom. However, despite its shortcomings, black color is the best friend of all other colors, and if you use it as an accent on one wall or floor, you will achieve a remarkable effect of a modern and luxurious bathroom. 5. Pink or red bathroom tiles. These bathroom tiles are a bit unusual choice for a bathroom and we have to be careful when choosing the design of our bathroom so that our bathroom does not look like a barbie's bathroom. Here it is best to stick to the safe combinations, namely with white, beige or gray tiles. 6. Gray bathroom tiles. This is my favorite color. These versatile tiles can turn the most ordinary bathroom visit into an incredibly emotional experience. Gray tiles are the most modern and up-to-date tiles at the moment, because they look elegant and strict. You can combine them with absolutely all types and colors of tiles.
Let's find out how to clean our bathroom tiles to a shine. There is a huge variety of preparations on the market that effectively fight all stains on our tiles, whether we are talking about water splash stains or yellowish or brown stains. However, all these solutions have one downside. These are strong chemicals that do not have a good effect on our health, that's why I offer you a proven recipe for a homemade cleaning product. Mix 125 ml of vinegar with 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Spray your bathroom tiles well with this solution and scrub all the joints well with a brush. Wait 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly with warm water. You will get perfect disinfection and a shining effect without endangering the health of your family.
